ABSTRACT

—— Climate concerns are threatening. The mediating effect of ecological identity on the relationship between sustainability consciousness and carbon footprint awareness was verified. Predictive design, stratified random sampling, survey approach, and mediation analysis were applied. The data from 250 STEM students revealed that the interest variable does not mediate the predictor-criterion correlation, partially supporting the Value-Belief-Norm Theory. Future research may explore other mediating variables to account for the remaining 95.3% variance in the strength of the mediation. School leaders may foster sustainability consciousness and ecological identity among students. Keywords: Mediating effect of ecological identity, sustainability consciousness, carbon footprint awareness
