——Junior high students worldwide show poor engagement in science. This study employed diagnostic research design in examining the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between classroom learning environment and student engagement in science. Applying survey technique to 341 samples selected through proportionate random sampling, and analyzing the data through mediation analysis, the findings revealed that self-efficacy partially mediates (30.8%) the correlation. The Social Cognitive Theory was partially affirmed. Future work may explore additional variables, use qualitative methods to identify mediators, and apply strategies that strengthen student self-efficacy for better engagement.
