ABSTRACT

—— The primary objective of the study was to investigate the relationship between pupils’ problem-solving skills and their mathematics performance, providing input for a mathematics intervention plan during the 2025-2026 school year. The present study employed a quantitative research methodology using a descriptive-correlational design. The research respondents consisted of a group of grade 5 pupils chosen specifically from the Magalang South District within the Division of Pampanga. A total of 269 samples were determined. The researcher employed statistical tools in analyzing the gathered data such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson Correlation. Based on the results, the pupils demonstrated a high level of problem-solving skills, as supported by their composite mean score of 3.57. The majority of respondents, comprising 54.28%, were categorized as having a “fairly satisfactory” level of academic performance in the mathematics subject. Meanwhile, only 12.27% performed at “very satisfactory.” There was a strong positive correlation between pupils’ problem-solving skills and their academic performance in the mathematics subject, as evidenced by the computed r-value of 0.6731. The proposed intervention plan was crafted to address the knowledge gaps between problem-solving skills and pupils’ mathematics performance.
