Growing in the Profession: Valued Professional Journey, Unmet Goals and Desired Supports Towards an Enhanced Framework

ABSTRACT

——The study aimed to explore on the professional journey, unmet goals and desired supports of master teachers in the Division of Angeles City during the School Year 2023-2024. The research utilized a qualitative research methodology, involving the collecting and analysis of non-numerical data. Specifically, phenomenology was used to give meaning to the experiences of the participants. Participants of the study were the master teachers. They were purposively selected using a set of criteria prepared by the researcher. Semi-structured interview was used to gather information from the participants. These questions were validated by experts before they were used. Thematic analysis was then applied for interpretation. Results tell that the valued professional journey in the profession of the participants include Fulfilling yet Struggling and Racing to the Top. The unmet goals that the master teachers have experienced in the profession are Work-Life Balance and Leaving a Legacy. Also, the desired supports on the unmet goals of the master teachers are Strict Compliance on Work and Personal Schedule and Opportunities to Lead Projects. Lastly, a career development support framework is proposed based on the findings of the study. The study has implications on improvement of human resource and management in school setting, which is expected to also have positive impact on improvement of teaching.
