ABSTRACT

— The LGBTQIA+ community is a group within society that often possesses complex and colorful stories, and like their vibrant personalities, they also have a colorful way of using language. Part of their cultural speech includes colorful satire. According to the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, satire involves the use of words that are hurtful or offensive to feelings; mockery, ridicule. This group has created modern words that are commonly used by the youth today. This study focuses on the culture of cursing among homosexuals. A qualitative research design was used to facilitate the collection of responses regarding the study’s problem. Random population sampling was employed in selecting participants from three selected provinces in Luzon, such as Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, and Benguet. The chosen participants have sufficient knowledge and ability to answer questions regarding the culture of cursing among homosexuals. The researchers conducted interviews to meet the study’s general objective. Frequency Analysis was the method used to interpret the collected data. Based on the results, this study proved that the words commonly used by homosexuals in cursing include “shuta,” “shutangina,” “gaga,” “kapotek,” and others. These words are uttered based on their particular feelings and experiences. These words are mentioned by the participants as a result of intense emotions such as anger and joy. They also use these words to hide the true meaning of the words they want to say. Because of these contexts, a dictionary of satirical words can be created to guide language teachers. Future researchers should conduct a deeper study on the etymology of modern words used in communication. Keywords — Culture, Curse words, Homosexual
