ABSTRACT

— This study explores the concept of distributed leadership, which extends leadership beyond formal administrative roles to promote shared influence within and between schools. As educational leadership shifts away from traditional hierarchical models, distributed leadership has emerged as a key approach to fostering collaboration, innovation, and school improvement. While this model enhances leadership capacity among teachers and staff, research highlights the essential role of principals in creating the structural and cultural conditions necessary for its success. Empirical evidence suggests a `positive relationship between distributed leadership and organizational effectiveness, teacher engagement, and student learning outcomes. However, the transition to a distributed leadership model requires a significant shift in leadership practices, emphasizing collective decision-making and shared responsibility. Grounded in transformational, situational, instructional, and distributed leadership theories, this study examines the benefits, challenges, and implications of distributed leadership in educational settings. By analyzing existing research and case studies, it aims to provide a deeper understanding of how distributed leadership influences school performance and student achievement, offering insights for future educational leadership practices.
