Influence of Professionalism and Extra-Role Behavior on Teaching Performance of Elementary Teachers

ABSTRACT

——The researcher aimed to determine the influence of professionalism and the extra-role behaviors on the teaching performance of public elementary school teachers in the Division of Angeles City towards a proposed professional development plan. The researcher focused on using quantitative method of research. The researcher primarily selected the descriptive-correlational design. There were 113 public elementary school teachers who were requested to participate in the study. These teachers were randomly selected. Questionnaires and documentary analysis were used to gather data. Weighted mean, frequency and percentage, and Pearson r were applied for interpretation. Results tell that elementary teachers were very high in commitment (M=4.53) responsibility (M= 4.55), and self-discipline very high (M=4.62) and high in expertise (M=4.33) and rationality (M=4.07) in their level of professionalism. Teachers had high level of altruism (M=4.43), conscientiousness (M=4.36) and sportsmanship (M=4.39) and very high on courtesy (M=4.65) in extra-role behaviors. 100.00% of the teacher-respondents have rating of outstanding on their teaching performance. This performance range from 4.50-5.00. The influence of level of professionalism on teaching performance marked an r value of 0.6738 and p value 0.0004 indicating that the influence is statistically significant. The influence of extra-role behavior on teaching performance has an r value 0.6771 and p value of 0.0003, which indicates that it is significant. A professional development plan is proposed based on the findings of the study. Keywords: teaching performance, professionalism, extra-role behavior, correlation
