——This study investigated on “Opey” stem and leaf phytochemical constituents and cytotoxicity in stunning freshwater fish. Phytochemical screening revealed that “Opey” stem contained various secondary metabolites such as triterpenes, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides and tannins and the leaf too contained several secondary metabolites such as sterols, triterpenes, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides and tannins. Likewise, the study conducted the cytotoxicity assay done in vitro to determine the cytotoxicity of the crude extracts. The toxicity of formulation was calculated using the data in terms of lethal concentration, LC50 standard value of the active component, concentration of the treatment and percent mortality. Findings showed that “Opey” stem crude extracts are moderately toxic and non-toxic similarly to “Opey” leaf crude extracts which are moderately toxic and non-toxic. In addition, results implied that stem concentrations exhibited faster time in stunning fish than leaf concentrations. It means that stem extracts were more effective than the leaf extracts in stunning fish. Keywords: Phytochemical, Cytotoxicity, Indigenous Species, Stunning, Freshwater fish
